The last four years have gone about the same. Mr. Preito's phone rings,he answers, and I ask him to give more of his time because no else will do it
His answer is always the same he takes a deep breath, pauses, and tells me he will be there.
Whether its been a Fred Lujan skill camp, referee elementary football/basketball and middle school games or run a skills practice, Brian Prieto is always there.
Not to mention this also means giving up days during your winter break, weekends, and nights.
Preito says, " I know how important athletics was to me growing up here in Bassett". he recalls a different time here in the community. "It was very easy at one time to go another path. A lot of my friends chose to go another way". Prieto goes on to say "athletics teaches llife skills, builds character and forces you to learn responsibility".
I asked him if anyone in particular has impacted him, he says "Ms. Brockway without a doubt. She created an atmosphere where we were able to bond and connect. If I could model anyone, it would be her. I just want to make my community a great place for kids."
Preito attended Sunkist when it was a K8 and is also a graduate of Bassett HS. He went on to earn his Bachelors and Masters degree. He is currently an art teacher at Bassett High School.
